WRAL-TV Tower Lighting

The WRAL-TV5 broadcasting tower becomes a Christmas tree every December 1st through the holiday season. Almost 3,000 colored lights illuminate the 300-foot tall tower, which can be seen for miles around the Raleigh area from its location at the corner of Avent Ferry Road and Western Boulevard.

WRAL-TV flips the switch on the tower lights in a special ceremony on December 1st each year. Area choruses provide music and the station provides warm cider or hot chocolate as the tower lighting takes place live on the air.

A tradition that spans several decades, the tower lighting ceremony serves as an unofficial start of the holiday season and shines for the citizens of the Triangle throughout the holiday season.
