First Night Raleigh

The City of Raleigh hosts an alcohol-free, family-friendly celebration to ring in the New Year every December 31st, and Capitol Broadcasting and its subsidiaries serve as major sponsors. Artsplosure puts this New Year's Eve celebration together.

Performances of art, drama, magic, music, comedy and dance take place all over downtown Raleigh and culminate on the Civic Center Plaza with the dropping of the acorn at midnight. Artsplosure gears a portion of First Night towards families with crafts and activities for children, a family parade and a special acorn drop earlier in the evening.

The event premiered in 1991, and attendance doubled for the second year of the event that now attracts over 75,000 people.
