Coats for the Children

As the winter season approaches each year, WRAL-TV mobilizes to help provide coats to Triangle families in need. Since 1988, the station has sponsored "Coats For The Children," a campaign to collect coats and donations for the Salvation Army to purchase coats, hats, mittens, scarves, long underwear and other warm clothing for children who cannot otherwise afford them.

Each year "Coats For The Children" kicks off with WRAL's broadcast of the Raleigh Christmas Parade in November and runs through December, including a daylong telethon on WRAL-TV. Jiffy Lube and Alltel have been long time sponsors of the event, and collections are taken at their various locations throughout the Triangle and at the station itself.

Over the years over 60,000 coats and more than $500,000 in donations have been collected. New and used coats, winter underwear for children, gloves, hats, scarves and socks are needed each year.
