iBiquity Digital Corporation, the sole developer and licenser of digital AM and FM broadcast technology in the United States, and Capitol Broadcasting-owned Microspace Communications Corporation, the largest business satellite broadcasting network operator in the world, announced recently an HD Radio™ data agreement to integrate services into Microspace's VELOCITY® satellite service. The agreement will allow Microspace to deliver content and rich media via satellite to stations broadcasting in HD Radio technology. Currently, VELOCITY delivers business music to more than 100 million people everyday. The partnership between iBiquity and Microspace is designed to offer content providers an easy-to-use and reliable means for distributing content directly to stations for real-time and archival insertion within their HD Radio broadcasts. Radio stations will ultimately benefit from the expanded array of offerings that they'll be able to provide their listeners. "As the leading provider in the delivery of digital content, Microspace's VELOCITY service will be able to provide broadcasters with a proven solution to reliably and seamlessly receive HD Radio broadcast data content," said Joe D'Angelo, Director, Wireless Data, iBiquity Digital Corporation. "This agreement will be especially important as we prepare to roll out second generation data services such as on-demand news, traffic and weather as well as expanded informational listings featuring text and rich media dynamically synchronized with the audio programming." Joe Amor, Vice President and General Manager, Microspace, adds, "With the introduction of HD Radio, broadcasters will have the opportunity to transform the listening experience into a multimedia event, which is a process that we are well-equipped to support using VELOCITY. As demonstrated by our leadership position in the satellite broadcasting market and our affiliation with parent company Capitol Broadcasting, we understand the needs of the radio industry, and are strongly committed to its future." Thanks to Microspace's Greg Hurt & Carla Torrence for this capcom story. |
