WRAL News anchor Debra Morgan hosts the program, which includes music celebrating the fabric of American life. As always, the concert ends with Tchaikovsky's stirring 1812 Overture and John Philip Sousa's patriotic crowd-pleaser, "The Stars and Stripes Forever," complete with fireworks launched over Symphony Lake in Regency Park.
This year's concert also includes amateur musicians from Cary who will play three musical pieces alongside their professional counterparts from the Symphony. This "Play with the Pros" component brings added meaning to the North Carolina Symphony's role as the people's orchestra, giving the local musicians an opportunity to share the limelight and allowing the Symphony to tangibly connect with its community. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics. Food will also be available at the Amphitheater, as for all events. Pets are not allowed. WRAL-TV will also broadcast Pops in the Park on Monday, September 1 at 7pm. UNC-TV will broadcast the program on Monday, September 22 at 9pm. WRAL's Pops in the Park is sponsored in part by Hyundai, KFC and Broadway Series South's "Thoroughly Modern Millie." The broadcast is sponsored in part by GlaxoSmithKline and Barton College. Thanks to WRAL-TV's Cindy Sink for this capcom story. |
