The $83,600 rolled in during the daylong campaign between 6:00am and midnight Friday, December 13, 2002. The money will be used for the Salvation Army to buy new, warm, winter clothing for children in need. Each year WRAL-TV kicks off the campaign at the Raleigh Christmas parade and collects new and used coats until December 31. The coats, gloves, scarves, long underwear, etc. are sorted and delivered to the Salvation Army, which distributes the items to those in need. WRAL-TV's event co-sponsors Jiffy Lube & Chick-fil-A have drop off bins in their locations in Raleigh, Apex, Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill, Fayetteville, Spring Lake, Rocky Mount, Wilson, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Smithfield, Clayton, Wake Forest and Goldsboro. Coats can also be dropped by the station. |
