WRAL-TV To Light Tower For Holiday Season Station To Continue Decades-Old Tradition

WRAL-TV will continue an over 40-year-old tradition on Friday, November 30, as the station turns its 300-foot TV tower into a 300-foot Christmas tree. WRAL-TV's Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel will flip the switch at approximately 5:55pm, bringing 2,890 colored lights to life for the holiday season.

The Durham Police Choir will provide musical entertainment for the lighting ceremony during the evening newscasts at 5:00, 5:30 and 6:00. They plan to perform a mixture of seasonal and patriotic music. WRAL-TV has also arranged to have a Raleigh fire truck on hand, with fire chiefs, police chief, and members of the Raleigh and Durham departments if their schedule permits.

"We realize that this will be a tough holiday season for a lot of people and therefore want to light the tower as a symbol of hope and strength, and to honor those who protect us," said WRAL-TV Senior Director/ Producer Leesa Craigie, the event coordinator.
