U.S. Senator Jesse Helms (NC) will make an announcement about his future plans tonight on WRAL-TV. The broadcast will take place during the 6:00pm newscast today, Wednesday, August 22. The station also plans to air a special about Senator Helms at 8:00pm. The program will include a one-on-one interview by WRAL-TV Anchor David Crabtree of Helms, as well as reaction to the announcement from Helms' colleagues. |
Helms, now 79, began work at WRAL-TV in 1960, and his editorials became hallmarks of the station's evening newscast. His stint on the air at WRAL-TV lasted until he first won his Senate seat in 1972. Helms also worked at WRAL radio in the late '40s.
