CBS Announces More HD Sports Coverage

CBS continues driving its sports into the digital age. For the third consecutive year Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America (MDEA) will sponsor High Definition coverage of the U.S. Open Tennis Championships on CBS Television. The 2001 coverage will include semi-finals and finals, featuring an HD primetime broadcast of the Women's Final on Saturday evening, Sept. 8.

CBS Sports will produce 20 hours of the Grand Slam tournament for High Definition broadcast. The live HDTV telecasts from Flushing, New York, will be produced and transmitted independent of the CBS' analog broadcast coverage. The event will be broadcast in 1080i, the highest quality High Definition format. CBS Sports' Tim Brando and Tony Trabert will anchor.

Combined with the U.S. Open Coverage, CBS Sports will present major HD broadcasts every weekend from early September through the first week of December. In the Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville area of North Carolina, all CBS High Definition sports events will be available via WRAL-Digital.
