their awards. Station Manager
Mark Gray said, “They've [Rock Hill School District] been a great partner
and they're really great people. We're proud they chose us as their outstanding
partner.”
STV
targets the elementary student population in WJZY’s viewing area. In 1993,
WJZY contacted the Rock Hill School District about a partnership, meeting
with school public relations coordinators and superintendents to discuss
their belief that children are the future. WJZY created Club STV to help
reach out to those children. The campaign now reaches over 170,000 students
in 25 counties in Northern South Carolina.
STV opens itself to schools in
a variety of ways. Club STV awards $10,000 in grants to schools and creates
PSAs promoting the fact that kids can make a difference. WJZY also produces
PSAs with family and educational messages, all of which air on UPN46 and
WB55. STV Host Jeff Johnson is available for personal appearances; he
usually visits about 150 schools each year. Finally WJZY distributes free
of charge a professionally produced STV magazine to all partnering schools.
Three issues of the magazine are created each school year.
STV maintains constant contact
with the schools and the community, sharing ideas and keeping current
with the needs of children. WJZY states, “We are proud to have been one
of the charter partners in this effort and value the time and energy the
station has put into our district and our ongoing relationship.”
